Early Morning and the Launch

How do I describe this whirlwind week?

I will start by sharing the below photo from this morning. (August 19, 2024 5:10am)

I start there because I loved sitting here in my living room in the early morning after the exercises and meditation. Anyone who sees the cover of my novel knows I like mountains with a full moon.

I don’t attribute any special ‘mystical’ powers to them. I grew up with the rise of the NASA program so the moon was a little more scientific in my life, but I like the moon also the way I like a sunrise, sunset or poetry. There is always a scientific reality to anything. However, in the same human, in the same moment, an emotional response to natural beauty does not have to be scientific. It is more related to poetry, or art.

There are a lot of stressors in this world and as we age, they increase. It makes it more, not less important to notice the phenomenal fleeting moments offered to us. This morning would have been great anyway. Thanks to the moon and beautiful early morning for making it even better.

This week’s walking in the park bird sighting… a blue heron, which is the first one I have seen here. I have seen them in other parts of the city.

Lastly, I just acquired this document this week from my high school (Rampart High School) which is right up the road from where I am living. I was originally asked for my diploma, but those are hard to get when you graduated in 1984. I was able to get this transcript, however. I was surprised they wanted my high school credentials when I have a college degree, but it was interesting to me to remember and reminisce about the classes I took and memories from them. I had a great experience in high school.

The transcript was for a work related job change that I ended up pulling out of at the last moment. I am grateful for the patience of my employer. As I mentioned to them, this has been a difficult time to ‘read the tea leaves’ of my life to know what to tell others, and to know what big life steps to take or not take. Everything feels in constant flux, and sometimes I get it right, and sometimes I get it wrong. This time, I publicly got it wrong which I try not to do.

However, one thing I learned as I have aged is to always follow my gut, even if doing so embarrasses me, even if I want it to tell me something else. Always go with my gut, and in time the logical reasons I might not have had in the moment will reveal themselves. So, now I sit, glad at least I listened to my gut, which isn’t something I would have always done, but it is not clear what larger change is upon me yet. I am sure more will follow.

Now that I have completed this blog, I notice I called it ‘Early Morning and the Launch.’ I picked that name for the blog as I was looking out the window in the early morning at the moon.

‘Launch’ what did I intend?

Then I remembered how I felt.

In the moment, it felt like a life launch. Surprisingly, not because I just got offered an advancement, but because I acted from a deeper place than I have always done before in a moment such as that despite the discomfort of it, and possible consequences. In the moment, I had taken Scott Peck’s The Road Less Traveled. I feel good and optimistic about my life.

The high school diploma I couldn’t find.

Note about Eva’s Journey:

Heather the author is not Eva the character.

Heather’s high school is not Eva’s high school. Eva is a fictional character her high school is also fiction. I felt it necessary to make that distinction.
