She is me, and this new app started just over a month ago. One of my new commitments is to walk 7500 steps each day. I’ve hit most of the daily commitments, but not all. I have found with my stride, 7500 steps is just under 3 miles per day but a percentage of that happens in the course of the work day. Exhaustion from a work day or weather are the two reasons I have missed when I have.
I can walk 1 lap around Prospect Lake in Memorial Park (small lake/big pond) in 3000 steps which is 1.25 miles. My walks range from 1 to 2 laps (plus a little more if I hadn’t accumulated enough steps that day during work.) Most of my walks have been at the lake, but the above photo was another local park, Palmer Park, in the Colorado Springs area. The plan is to continue to expand the walking locations.
This was a good time of year to begin as the scenery is gorgeous. The fields are green and wildflowers are in bloom. In the few weeks I have had this 7500 step commitment, I’ve seen at least twenty species of animals and birds including three pelicans, several different kinds of hawks, ducks, geese and their young. I even briefly spotted a bald eagle but it was through the trees and I never got a good vantage point to get a photo of it.
The dramatic storms coming over the mountains create for dramatic lighting. Some days require assessment of how likely I might get caught in a downpour on the far side of the lake or far from the car. My water-proof windbreaker is always ready in my car. I am considering getting a waterproof poncho so I can expand the range of weather in which I can walk.
I have accumulated a lot of pictures and short videos during my walks. I will share some of them with you here:
